The EU-wide stress test, carried out across 91 banks covering over 65% of the EU banking system total assets, seeks to assess the resilience of European banks to severe shocks and their specific solvency to hypothetical stress test events under certain restrictive conditions. Each scenario looked at a set of economic indicators for each country (GDP trend, unemployment rate, and inflation), and the impact that adverse conditions would have on financial markets and on interest rates, with a view to assessing the deterioration of public debt portfolios of institutions.
